What is Multimedia? Part 1

Before we can discuss multimedia, we should all understand what it is. There are several definitions, which I have refined to three. The first one is:

1. Multimedia is the convergence point of audio-visual, video production, information technology, the World Wide Web, and communication technologies.

This is technological definition of multimedia. Audio-visual, broadcasting, public relations, marketing, and computer technologies used to be very separate entities. Usually a worker in one industry would not understand the technology of another. Today, things are very different. A multimedia consultant, like we offer through Totem Media, L.C., needs to understand the concepts, technologies, and usual business practices of all of these industries. Also, someone in the multimedia industry has to have business partners and information contacts throughout the multimedia (also called media communications) field.
